Fishing in Southern Tennessee
South Central Tennessee is home to 11 public lakes and reservoirs, offering a range of places to cast a line, launch a boat, paddle a quiet cove, or spend the day beside the water. The lineup includes larger destinations like Tims Ford Lake, Normandy Lake, Woods Reservoir, and the stretch of the Tennessee River that TVA counts as part of Kentucky Lake, alongside smaller community fishing lakes such as Laurel Hill Lake, Coy Gaither Bedford Lake, VFW Lake, and the four lakes at Williamsport.
Each lake has its own character. Tims Ford draws boaters and water sports crowds across its 10,500 acres. Normandy and Woods Reservoir are known for strong bass and crappie fishing with far less boat traffic. The smaller TWRA-managed lakes, Laurel Hill, Bedford, VFW, and Williamsport's Blue Cat, Shellcracker, Goldeneye, and Whippoorwill lakes, give families and anglers a quieter, more manageable place to spend a morning, often with youth-only fishing areas built in.
