City Sandwich Company: A family Recipe Over 45 Years in the Making

Jason was 13 years old the first time he worked a shift behind the counter at his dad's sandwich shop in Bakersfield, California. He stuck with it through his teens, became a partner in his 20's, and eventually he and his wife bought the shop outright from his dad. What started as a summer job turned into a family business spanning two generations, and now moe than 46 years.

Somewhere along the way, they started catering weddings and corporate events on the side. That side venture grew fast enough that it changed the direction of the whole business. Not long after, Jason and his wife packed up and moved across the country to Tullahoma, Tennessee, opening City Sandwich Company's Tullahoma location in 2021. What began as a new chapter turned into a permanent one in 2023, when they bought their building in downtown Tullahoma and put down roots for good.

Every sandwich served is fresh and sliced to order. Alongside the sandwiches, they make their sides completely from scratch: pasta salad, potato salad, broccoli salad, and a marinated bean salad. There is also a build-your-own salad bar if you'd rather build your own plate than pick off the menu. They accommodate different diets, too. Gluten free options are available, and for anyone watching carbs, they'll take the bread out of the equation entirely with what they call a "Sub in a Tub."

Catering

City Sandwich Company's catering side has grown right alongside the shop itself. They handle everything from small family gatherings to large corporate events and weddings, scaling anywhere from 5 to 500 guests. Their team will travel to set up catering anywhere within a three-hour radius of Tullahoma, which covers a huge stretch of Middle Tennessee and beyond.

A Hometown, Two Generations in the Making

From a 13-year-old working his first shift in California to owning a building in downtown Tullahoma, City Sandwich Company's path has been anything but a straight line. But the throughline has stayed the same the whole way: fresh food, made by hand, served by people who've spent their whole lives doing it. We're lucky that Tullahoma is where they decided to settle down.
