When Miss Jean's Sandwich and Ice Cream Shop closed it's doors, many wondered if the Petersburg square would ever get that kind of spot back. That’s when the Hartley family stepped in and gave the town exactly what it needed: a second act worth cheering for.

The Encore Café is a music-themed eatery that brings comfort food, fun drinks, and a whole lot of heart to the square. Inspired by the family’s love of concerts and the way music brings people together, every detail in the café, from the decor to the dish names, reflects that joy. Their menu includes burgers, hot dogs, pizzas, lattes, lemonades, and their now-famous dirty sodas, which are regular sodas mixed with flavorful syrups, creams, and add-ins for a totally unique twist.

Owner Carrie Hartley originally planned to launch a food truck, but after sitting down with Miss Jean herself to learn more about the ins and outs of running a food business, her plan changed. Carrie decided to open a brick-and-mortar café instead.

One of the things that makes this place extra special is how personal it feels. The burger and hot dog topping ideas came from the Hartley family’s own get-togethers, where they’d do build-your-own hot dog bars and try different flavor combinations. You’ll find everything from cream cheese and jalapenos to slaw, fried onions, bacon, nacho cheese, and chili, and it all works. The creativity is what keeps people coming back for more.

Encore is open Thursday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., making it the perfect spot for a weekend lunch with friends or a laid-back Sunday meal. And if you're spending the day in Petersburg, there’s more to see just steps away.

Right on the square, you’ll find Red Heels-Wright Doors, a cozy general store full of eclectic treasures, jewelry, groceries, and more. Just around the corner is The Thread, a charming mother-daughter boutique. If you’re in the mood for a caffeine boost, Good Shepherd Coffee Co. is within walking distance, offering everything from bold espresso to sweet lattes and fresh pastries.

It’s a comeback story, a family dream, and a great reason to head to Petersburg!
