Grab a Map and Experience Amish Country

Visiting the Amish Farms in Ethridge, Tennessee is a very special way to slow down, be inspired and reflect on the simplicity and friendly nature of this amazing group of people. Touring this region is a scenic ride on country roads in a place where time doesn’t just stand still; it stopped a long time ago. It was an honor for us to meet several of the sweet families who live quiet, simple, committed lives. 

The first stop in Ethridge should be The Amish Welcome Center. It’s the best kind of “general store” with homemade crafts and food items, antiques, and those cool, iconic straw hats many of the Amish men wear. The hosts at the Center can answer any questions you may have.  

One essential item you don’t want to leave without is a map of the Amish Country. This very detailed map lists which farms are open for business and what each farm sells. Dominic Gialdini, our colleague at Experience Tennessee, worked diligently to ensure the map is thorough and easy to follow.  

With our map in hand and a straw hat on DanO’s head we turned left out of the Welcome Center and stepped back in time, to experience a part of our world that is rare and inspiring. In our stops at several of the farms, we discovered gourds, pumpkins, tomatoes, leather goods, porch furniture, woven baskets, canned goods, candles, sorghum molasses, and so much more. We even enjoyed watching a family squeeze, cook, then jar the fresh hot molasses. It was delicious on homemade biscuits.  

The people who live in the Amish Community are generous to allow the public to drive through their farms, and also to shop at their merchandise stands and in some of their barns to shop. They love to visit with you and appreciate you purchasing their goods. 

However, we encourage all visitors to respect these dear fellow citizens. They do not allow pictures of any kind to be taken: not of their farms, their homes, their buggies, their merchandise and especially not of them. Please Do Not attempt to take pictures, they do not allow it and if you do they will tell you to leave immediately. Keep in mind we are visiting their homes, and this is disrespectful.  

Also, as a reminder, on the main highway you will notice their buggies. Please be courteous and safe. They have their own lane on the four-lane, but the side roads can be narrow and dangerous. Drive slowly, respectfully and wave at them as you go by.
