What’s your favorite Moon Pie flavor? Chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, caramel? Take a bite of the round cookie with marshmallow filling and a sip of RC Cola, while you’re enjoying entertainment at Bell Buckle RC Cola Moon Pie Festival. The RC Cola Moon Pie Festival in Bell Buckle is set for Saturday, June 19. The festival will offer games, music, art, a parade and delicious food. The event will begin at 7 a.m. with the annual Bell Buckle Chamber of Commerce 10M run and 5K run.
“You can expect everything you love in a small-town festival – a parade, crazy games, music, crafts, lots of food, tons and tons of people and a whole lot of fun,” said Lisa Scimeca, owner of the Bell Buckle Coffee Shop and Book Swap.
Scimeca is looking forward to enjoying the festival, which offers unique experiences of food, arts and history. Scimeca invites you to experience the cuisine of the American South and Bell Buckle’s hospitality.
“As a novice photographer and a local business owner, I love to see all the different people that come out,” Scimeca said. “They come from outside the states just for the experience and to taste the world's largest moon pie. I love to see people that really get into the event by dressing in red and blue or all things RC and moon pie.”
The parade, set to begin 11:15 a.m., will recognize the officers who risked their lives during the Christmas bombing.
“I am looking forward to seeing the parade with the six officers that saved lives in Nashville during the Christmas bombing,” Scimeca said. “They will all be there and be a part of our RC Moon Pie coronation.”
Scimeca encourages you to attend the event and explore Bell Buckle.
“It's just time to get out and have some fun,” Scimeca said. “The festival is fun for all ages with so much stuff going on, from the start with the 5K run and 10M race, to the games, parade, food, music and the cutting of the largest moon pie that is shared by anyone that would like to try it. This year's moon pie is lemon…So many people have said that Bell Buckle is a unique town that gives them warm feelings when they are here. Visiting Bell Buckle is like stepping back in time, which is what we have tried so hard to hold on to.”
The theme of the artwork for the 2021 RC Cola Moon Pie Festival is “Making lemonade out of lemons,” according to Bell Buckle Chamber of Commerce. The Chattanooga Bakery, where Moon Pies are made, is re-releasing lemon flavored Moon Pies “for the first time in a decade and, with 2020 being, well, whatever 2020 was, lemonade just hit the spot, literally and figuratively.”
The artwork will be featured on the festival and race T-shirts and will be available on at the Bell Buckle Chamber of Commerce booth.
