Hand-Built Hideaway: Hilltop Homestead in Lynchburg

Updated: 5 days ago

If peace and quiet had a physical address, it would probably be somewhere around Hilltop Homestead in Lynchburg, Tennessee. Tucked into the rolling hills just minutes from the iconic Jack Daniel's Distillery and historic downtown, this place is what happens when you mix true craftsmanship with countryside charm (and a healthy respect for front porch sitting).

Wooden cabin porch with several rocking chairs overlooking a quiet wooded landscape.

Hilltop Homestead isn't your average cabin rental. Every single log you see was hand-cut by the owner, Larry George. From the cedar-scented cabins to the massive tree trunk supports holding up the motorcycle pavilion, everything on the property feels thoughtful, intentional, and frankly, pretty impressive. The porch railings shown above were crafted and modeled after the seat springs of an Amish horse cart.

Spacious cabin suite with exposed wood beams, a log four-poster bed, and a patterned rug under a vaulted metal ceiling. Rustic log cabin bedroom with a wooden bed, red bedding, and a colorful patchwork quilt, softly lit by a bedside lamp.

The property is home to two cabin options: the Main Cabin and the Log Cabin. Outside, you'll find a screened-in porch with a swinging bed where you can fall asleep to the sound of a spring-fed creek, a firepit by the water, and a charcoal grill ready for use. The Main Cabin includes a full kitchen, a relaxing front porch, a full bath and shower, and a whirlpool tub. Just up the hill, the Log Cabin is split into two cozy suites inspired by old breezeway-style homes. The Sassafras Cabin has a queen bed, shower, and kitchenette. The Cedar Cabin smells exactly as good as it sounds and offers the same cozy setup.

This part of Tennessee is packed with things to see and do. In addition to the Jack Daniel's Distillery and Historic Lynchburg, you're a quick drive from Cascade Hollow Distillery (home of George Dickel), Tim's Ford Lake, and Tim's Ford State Park.

You won't find an online booking system here. No apps, no third-party websites, no "Confirm Your Stay" buttons. You call, you talk to a real person, and they get you taken care of. It's cozy and private, the kind of place where your coffee tastes a little better and bedtime comes with crickets and creek sounds.

Hilltop Homestead is ready to welcome you for a peaceful weekend getaway. They're just a call away!
