Explore Wartrace, TN with Hey Y'all!

We highly recommend you take the drive to Wartrace, TN, also known as: “the friendliest little town you’ve never heard of!” Wartrace is roughly 10 miles from downtown Shelbyville, and the drive out is incredibly picturesque. The town itself is just as quaint and charming as the drive, with a sidewalk running alongside all the shops and restaurants. Don’t forget your camera- you’ll need it for all the sweet memories you’ll be making!

While the Old Hotel downtown isn’t open, the exterior is certainly a magnificent relic of a bygone era. Situated right next to the railroad tracks is a red caboose just waiting for kids and adults to climb onboard and explore. Remember that the railroad in Wartrace is still a major line, and you are likely to see a train or two pass by!

Wartrace is home to the Tennessee Walking Horse Museum, located at 27 Main St. It is open Friday and Saturday each week from 10a-4p and is absolutely full of rich history surrounding the iconic Tennessee Walking Horse. Tours are free (but donations are greatly appreciated!)

Many spots on the town’s sidewalk are lined with comfy rocking chairs, perfect for slowing down and enjoying the scenery. Take the trip out to experience Wartrace, TN!

WARTRACE EMPORIUM

The Wartrace Emporium at 100 Main St E is perhaps the most unique shop in the entire town! I nearly felt like I was experiencing sensory overload (in a good way) while shopping! We found so many incredible items that we were just dying to take home with us.

First, let me slow down and start with the building itself. The Emporium is located in what was once a bank, and the old vault is still intact!

Owner Julie greeted us enthusiastically and explained the thought and intention behind her shop’s one-of-a-kind vibe. Julie serves on the Bell Buckle Arts Council and her shop highlights 35 local Middle Tennessee artists and their pieces.

Right when we walked in, we were drawn to the display of eye-themed art titled: “The Eyedes of March.” Artists were given the challenge to use their chosen medium to convey the theme, and it made for an incredibly EYE-CATCHING display! The next display will be strawberry-themed in order to celebrate the upcoming Strawberry Festival (May 9th! Mark your calendars!)

Julie was wonderful at explaining the items in her store and making sure you didn’t miss out on any hidden gems! I was especially intrigued by the collection of Cantha blankets in the vault, and of course one is now residing in my den.

I could go on and on about all of the stunning merchandise, but I will encourage you to explore on your own! Go visit the Wartrace Emporium to find your own treasures to take home!

JEET CHET? IRON HORSE PIZZA

The Iron Horse is located at 23 Main Street and is open for dine-in and carry-out service Wed-Fri 5-10p, Sat 11a-10p, and Sun Noon-8p. The Iron Horse opened in 2019 as a place for friends to hang out, grab a drink, and enjoy burgers and pizzas. It has since become a favorite spot for locals and visitors alike.

When we stopped by, we sat outside and visited with Mike, who runs the kitchen. Mike always has a tremendous attitude and a smile on his face, and along with Tucker, runs the small kitchen of the restaurant with dancer-like finesse. Equally as impressive are Teresa and Dawn, who skillfully wait on tables, help customers to their cars, and balance take-out orders. The upbeat personalities of all the staff make this a great place to grab a bite.

They have a menu with a selection of great options: appetizers, chicken sandwiches, burgers, and of course, pizzas. We enjoyed a Road Glide pizza while admiring the unique decor of the restaurant. The old building it’s housed in is unbelievably beautiful, and The Iron Horse has brought great new life into it and Wartrace’s main street.

Be sure to follow The Iron Horse on Facebook to keep up with their live music and other special events. You may enter as a stranger but will surely leave as a friend!
