When the weather warms and the trees start budding out you know it’s festival season. In Fayetteville, that means Slawburger Festival. Aimee Byrd took some time out of her busy day to talk to us about this special day. Here's all the information on this one-of-a-kind festival!

Why slawburgers: Well these unique burgers began here on the square about 100 years ago. In 2015 the city decided to honor the humble slawburger. But the real draw is getting out and socializing with friends, neighbors, and making new friends. Bring a chair or a blanket and enjoy all the activities planned for the day. Come spend the day then stay well into the evening.

They kick it off with the opening ceremony at 11:00 then the festivities begin.

The kid zone, face painting, kids lawn games, and balloon animals also begin at 11:00.

The adult beer garden (or as I call it adult timeout) is open from 11-5, ID required for purchase. The Slawburger Chase, a 5K and a 10K with all the money going to Always Endure a non-profit organization. Visit their site at endure.com

At 12:00 is a crowd favorite at the bandstand, the kids ice cream eating contest. Last year everyone enjoyed cheering on the kids. Then at 12:30 they make room for the slaw dog contest. Dogs dressed in all sorts of outfits will strut their tails to delight the crowd.

1:30 is the main event, The Slawburger Eating Contest on the south side of the courthouse. This is always a roudy event, join us in cheering on the contestants.

2:00 the winners of the homemade slaw competition will be announced. Also, this is when the music begins. This year we will be entertained by Shelby Lee Lowe then 4 Miles Gone.

It doesn’t get any better than this lineup. Come enjoy the day, and some slawburgers. There will be vendors, and food trucks available.

Walk the square and visit the shops that will welcome you warmly. Take the time to admire the window paintings done by their talented high school students.
