If you enjoy wandering into a place where you never quite know what you'll find, Tennessee River Auction House and Retail Store in Waynesboro is worth the stop. Tucked just off the square on Main Street, this shop is full of character, history, and shelves packed with one-of-a-kind pieces that are waiting for a second life.
Owned by licensed auctioneer Howard Davis, the store grew out of years spent collecting and working in the auction world. What started as a space known mostly for weekly auctions has quietly evolved into a retail shop that deserves just as much attention.
Inside, each piece has its own story. Cast iron cookware, glassware, tools, baskets, decor, and collectibles line the shelves. Howard has a particular knack for cast iron, carefully restoring and seasoning each piece so it's ready to take home and use right away. You can't have the true Southern experience without cooking breakfast with a well-seasoned skillet that's been on this earth longer than you have.
Glassware is another highlight, with everything from milk glass to Fenton and other vintage finds making regular appearances. The inventory is always shifting, so no two visits will feel the same.
Howard works throughout the week helping families navigate estate sales, auctions, and transitions that can often feel overwhelming. That work is part of what keeps the store so well-stocked with unique and meaningful items, each one tied to a story from somewhere nearby.
The shop is currently open Fridays and Saturdays, which makes it a great weekend stop is you're cruising the Natchez Trace, exploring downtown Waynesboro, or travelling through from Collinwood or Alabama. You never know what you'll walk out with!
