A Taste of Texas in Tennessee at Shaffer's Meat Market & BBQ

Southern states are passionate about a few things, like football, music, hospitality and Southern cuisine - especially our barbecue. We’re pretty stoked about a co-state establishment called Shaffer’s Meat Market And Texas Bar-B-Cue in Summertown, Tennessee. They say Texas, but they are located in Tennessee, so you can see we are within our right to claim them as our own.

Lots of people like to claim Shaffer’s as their own, their own favorite BBQ joint, that is.

Brisket, house-made sausage and pork, in that order, and they are all awesome. We’re with Richard. Shaffer’s Meat Market and Texas Bar-B-Cue in Summertown is a must stop, to eat-in or pick-up a meal to go. The meat and side choices are equal in quality and scrumptiousness. Brisket, ribs, pork, chicken, beans, mac & cheese, potato salad, cole slaw and more. 

When we arrived, magic was taking place in the smoke house located right next to the restaurant and meat shop. As our car door opened, the delicious smell of BBQ meat came wafting by and totally overwhelmed our taste buds. The smokers were packed butt to butt, shoulder to shoulder, rib to rib. That’s a good thing, since there was no shortage of hungry customers anxious to dig in.  Some staff members were busy tending to the smokers, while others loaded carts with the delicious cooked meat. 

It’s time to savor some Texas BBQ in Tennessee!

Shaffer’s did not disappoint. Everything we tried was delicious, and ample portions.

The options on the menu make decisions difficult. But no matter what you choose, you will be satisfied.. The staff is friendly and helpful, and whether you dine in or get it to go, you will remember this as one of the best bar-be-cue meals ever.

The choices were impressive, and the butchers can help you with a custom cut of meat. It’s so nice to be able to talk to the professionals.
